Nobody should feel society has forgotten about them,” says Elaine Mackenzie Ellis, a member of Glasgow Cathedral’s outreach committee. The committee is organizing a charity organ concert at Glasgow Cathedral on October 30 at 7.30pm to raise funds for local homelessness charities like the Lodging House Mission and Wallace of Campsie Hostel.
Elaine, who is also an actor known for her role as Natalie in Rab C. Nesbitt, emphasized that the concert is an excellent opportunity to support a worthy cause while experiencing the beauty of the cathedral at night.
She described the cathedral as a special place, especially when visited in the dark with its lit stained glass windows creating a magical atmosphere. The sound of the organ playing adds to the experience, creating a breathtaking ambiance. Elaine highlighted that the event is open to everyone in Glasgow, with no religious component attached to it.
The concert will feature four talented organists playing fun and familiar music, including popular pieces like David Bowie’s “Life on Mars.” Elaine expressed her concern about the increasing homelessness issue in the city, noting the visible presence of people sleeping on the streets even in shop fronts.
She mentioned encountering a tent on Renfrew Street, realizing the harsh reality faced by those who have no shelter. Elaine stressed the importance of acknowledging and supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, showing them that they are valued members of society.
The goal of the charity concert is to raise awareness about homelessness and provide assistance to those in need. By attending the event, participants can enjoy music, refreshments, and a sense of community while contributing to a meaningful cause.
Elaine encouraged people to join the Charity Organ Concert at Glasgow Cathedral on October 30 to make a difference in the lives of those affected by homelessness. Tickets are priced at £10 and can be purchased online or at the door, with all proceeds benefiting local charities supporting the homeless population.
