Glasgow is on the brink of a cultural renaissance thanks to a recent infusion of financial support from The National Lottery, the Scottish Government, and Creative Scotland. This funding is set to breathe new life into the city’s artistic landscape through a series of innovative projects and initiatives.
The Gray Plays: A Tribute to Alasdair Gray
One of the standout projects receiving funding is The Gray Plays, a collaborative effort between Outwith It Ltd, Òran Mór, The Alasdair Gray Estate, and the Alasdair Gray Archive. This ambitious project seeks to honor the enduring legacy of Glasgow’s literary maestro, Alasdair Gray, by reimagining his works in partnership with local artists.
Scheduled for a one-night-only performance at Òran Mór in spring 2025, The Gray Plays will showcase four of Gray’s seminal works to a captivated local audience. Fraser Scott, director at Outwith It, expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “Their support empowers us to reimagine older plays and bring them to life in bold, fresh, and exciting ways.”
Wildcard Stories: Embracing Glasgow’s Storytelling Tradition
Another project that caught the eye of funders is Wildcard Stories, a recurring live event in Glasgow that invites local performance artists to share a mix of traditional and contemporary tales. This initiative aims to foster a sense of community among storytellers of all levels, offering a platform for creative expression and feedback.
Frankie Regalia, co-producer and co-host of Wildcard Stories, highlighted the importance of the project, saying, “Not only are we promoting storytelling, but also the unique and vibrant character of this city.” With its distinctively Glaswegian flavor, Wildcard Stories celebrates the rich storytelling heritage of Scotland while paving the way for future artistic endeavors.

These projects are just a glimpse of the 76 grants awarded across Scotland, totaling £1,099,673 in funding for writers, musicians, visual artists, and theatre makers.
