A Ukrainian Independence Day event is set to take place in Victoria Park, celebrating Ukraine’s relationship with Scotland through various performances, sports, and workshops. The Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB) has teamed up with Friends of Victoria Park (FoVP) to organize this fun-filled day on August 24.

This event is part of ongoing efforts to commemorate the strong bond between Scotland and Ukraine. In April, a bench was unveiled in the park, featuring the colors of the Ukrainian flag and dedicated to all those affected by the Russia-Ukraine War. This gesture symbolizes the solidarity and support for those impacted by the conflict.

Kateryna Campbell from AUGB Glasgow emphasized that the event is open to everyone and aims to bring people together. With around 24,000 displaced Ukrainians currently living in Scotland, including 3,000 in Greater Glasgow, the day serves as a way to give back to the community that has welcomed so many Ukrainian individuals. It’s an opportunity for people to connect, share stories, and enjoy a day out with their families.

The event will kick off with singers performing traditional Ukrainian songs, followed by a minute of silence to honor the lives lost in the conflict. Sports activities such as rugby drills by the Glasgow Warriors team, tug of war, and volleyball games are also on the agenda. Attendees will have the chance to interact with one another, watch magic shows, get their faces painted, and participate in various workshops and activities throughout the day.

From yoga and football sessions to art workshops and even a fire engine display for the kids, there will be plenty of entertainment for all ages. The organizers are working hard to ensure that the event offers something for everyone to enjoy and engage with.

The Ukrainian Independence Day celebration in Victoria Park will run from 12pm to 4pm, providing a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together, celebrate cultural diversity, and strengthen the bonds between Ukraine and Scotland. Don’t miss out on this exciting event filled with music, sports, and fun activities for everyone to enjoy!
