Representatives from top EPL clubs, along with scouts from Celtic and Rangers, gathered this week to watch the talented young player Lennon Miller in action. The Motherwell starlet led Scotland’s Under-19s to a 0-0 draw against France, catching the eye of scouts from Manchester United, Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Aston Villa.
Rangers’ technical director Nils Koppen expressed the club’s interest in signing the best talents from Scotland to strengthen their squad. John Park, formerly of Celtic, was also in attendance before his move to Blackburn Rovers.
At just 18 years old, Miller has already made 55 first-team appearances for Motherwell since his professional debut at the age of 16 in 2022. The club is reportedly looking for over £4m for the midfielder, whose contract runs until 2026.
There have been suggestions for Miller to be called up to the Scotland A-squad, with national team coach Steve Clarke acknowledging the importance of nurturing young talent. Clarke emphasized the need to allow young players like Miller the time and space to develop, highlighting the positive impact of having a pool of talented young players to choose from.
The future looks promising for Scottish football if more young players like Miller continue to emerge, as identified in the SFA’s Transition Phase paper published in May. The focus on developing homegrown talent could benefit both club and country in the long run.
