ScotRail is getting ready to increase the number of services on a Glasgow route this upcoming weekend for a major event.
The rail company has announced that it will be adding more seats and extra services to accommodate travel to and from Scotland’s men’s international rugby match at Murrayfield.
The game will see Scotland facing off against Australia on Sunday, November 24, at 1.40pm as part of the Famous Grouse Nations Series.
In preparation for the event, ScotRail will be introducing additional services between Haymarket and Glasgow Queen Street before and after the match. Additionally, there will be extra carriages on trains running between Edinburgh Waverley and Fife, Perth, Dunblane, and the Borders Railway throughout the day.
However, rugby enthusiasts are advised to anticipate longer waiting times for the train journey home after the game due to limited access at Haymarket station caused by construction work on a nearby building.
The ongoing building work has led to restricted access at Haymarket and a reduction in station capacity by half. This means that some passengers may need to be redirected to Edinburgh Waverley to catch their train because of the limited space available at Haymarket station.
ScotRail is urging fans to consider heading straight to Edinburgh Waverley after the match to decrease the need to wait in line or to postpone their journey home until later in the evening.
Phil Campbell, ScotRail’s Customer Operations Director, expressed excitement about assisting fans with their travel to and from Scotland’s final match of the Nations Series against former world champions, Australia.
“We will be adding more seats and services to support travel to and from the match, and customers are advised to plan ahead,” Campbell said.
He also recommended purchasing mTickets in advance on the ScotRail app to decrease the need to wait in line on the day of the event and to make the journey smoother.
A ScotRail spokesperson emphasized that extra staff will be available to help customers. Furthermore, the train operator is reminding everyone that alcohol consumption and carrying are not allowed on ScotRail trains and in ScotRail stations.
With the increased services and support from ScotRail, fans can look forward to a smooth and enjoyable journey to and from the exciting rugby match this weekend.
