Glasgow’s Christmas celebrations at George Square and St Enoch Square have been approved to kick off this weekend. Winterfest will start with a Christmas market and fairground at St Enoch Square on November 9, followed by George Square’s transformation on November 23.

The city’s licensing committee granted approval for the events, issuing temporary public entertainment licenses to the organizers. Stephen McGowan, the licensing lawyer representing M&N Events, highlighted the success of last year’s winter festivities and expressed excitement for this year’s Christmas market and fair in both squares.

In St Enoch Square, the market and fairground will operate from November 9 to December 29, featuring a bar area, 16 retail and food stalls, amusement rides, a bungee trampoline, and a snow globe with a capacity of 2,000 people. Meanwhile, George Square’s market and fair will run from November 23 to January 5, offering an ice rink, a bar, 19 retail and food stalls, fairground rides, and a snow globe with a capacity of 4,000 people.

Visitors can look forward to attractions like the 80m Drop Tower, Booster Maxx Carousel, Wave Swinger, and Santa’s Train Kids Carousel at George Square, while St Enoch Square will feature Santa’s Runaway Train, the Grinch Train, and a kids carousel.

In addition to the rides and food stalls, both locations will host gift stalls selling handcrafted decorations, jewelry, cozy clothing, and other unique gifts. M&N Events emphasized that Glasgow Winterfest 2024 will be a highlight of the season, promising an unforgettable event filled with festive lights, excitement, and seasonal delights for all attendees.
