Jane Rowlands, the newly appointed Head of Museums and Collections for Glasgow Life, brings over two decades of experience working with Glasgow’s museums to her new role. She has been serving as the acting Head of Museums and Collections since August, taking on the position following the retirement of Duncan Dornan.

Throughout her career, Jane has been involved in various projects and programs within Glasgow’s museum service. She played a key role in the refurbishment of the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Phase Two of the Glasgow Museum Resource Centre, the Riverside Museum project, the reimagining of Kelvin Hall, and The Burrell Collection. Currently, she is leading the museums work for the refurbishment of The People’s Palace.

Jane’s educational background includes studying English and Art at Canterbury Christ Church University, followed by obtaining an MA in Conservation in London. She joined Glasgow’s museums in 2000, working on the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum project. Over the years, she has held positions across Collections and Conservation Management, led research projects, and served as a Senior Museums Manager since 2011.
