A beautiful memorial garden has recently been unveiled at Motherwell FC, thanks to the hard work of volunteers and local businesses in the community.

The club, along with The Well Society, came together to officially open the garden this week after many months of dedication and effort. Situated close to Fir Park, the garden serves as a peaceful and serene space for fans to reflect and remember their loved ones.

In addition to providing a tranquil setting for remembrance, supporters also have the option to inter ashes in the garden and hold short services to honor the passing of a loved one. This heartfelt gesture allows fans to feel connected to both the club and their cherished memories.

The transformation of the garden, previously known as the Reading Garden, began earlier this year when a relative of a fan whose ashes were scattered there sought help to revitalize the overgrown area. Thanks to the support of North Lanarkshire Council’s RecoverNL fund and various building and gardening suppliers, the once neglected patch of land has been turned into a well-defined memorial garden.

Brian Caldwell, the chief executive of Motherwell FC, expressed the club’s deep appreciation for its fans and emphasized the importance of providing a space where the community can come together to honor their loved ones. The project was a collaborative effort that brought together individuals from various backgrounds to create a meaningful space for reflection.

Sally Hall, the development manager at The Well Society, highlighted the significance of preserving memories and celebrating the good times shared with family and friends. The dedication and hard work of the volunteers, local businesses, and Well Society members were instrumental in bringing the project to fruition.

Provost Kenneth Duffy, who officially opened the garden by cutting the ribbon, commended the revitalization of the memorial garden and praised the efforts of all those involved in making it a reality. The garden now stands as a peaceful community space where people can come together for remembrance and reflection.

Looking ahead, the club plans to host a re-dedication event for families next spring when the garden will be in full bloom. This event will provide an opportunity for families to come together and celebrate the memories of their loved ones in a beautiful and serene setting.
