Eilidh Shaw, a 19-year-old road cyclist from Airdrie, Scotland, has been making waves in the cycling world with her recent success. After overcoming a medical condition that forced her to take a break from racing in 2023, Shaw ended the 2024 season on a high note by winning both the Scottish road race and circuit race championships.

Despite her accomplishments, Shaw’s transition to becoming a professional cyclist with UAE Team ADQ took many by surprise. She credits her passion for cycling, which began when she was 13 or 14 years old, as the driving force behind her rapid ascent in the sport. Shaw reflects on her journey, acknowledging that she was not always at the top but worked hard to improve her skills and achieve success.

During the 2024 season, Shaw rode for the Scottish UCI Continental team, Alba Development Road Team, where she stood out as a top performer. Despite facing challenges due to her medical condition, Shaw’s determination and strong performances caught the attention of UAE Team ADQ, leading to her signing as a professional rider.

Shaw attributes much of her success to the support and opportunities provided by Alba Road Team, which aims to develop Scottish riders into professional athletes. Moving forward, Shaw is excited to relocate to Girona, Spain, where her new team is based, and embark on her professional cycling career.

As Shaw prepares for the upcoming season, she remains focused on building a long and successful career in the professional peloton. Her ultimate goal is to compete in prestigious races like the Tour of Flanders, showcasing her talent on the international stage. Despite the challenges that lie ahead, Shaw is grateful for the opportunity to pursue her passion for cycling at such a young age and is eager to see what the future holds.
