Glasgow students teamed up with the Scottish Ambulance Service in an attempt to break a world record for the most people learning CPR. The Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) and Save a Life for Scotland (SALFS) organized a livestream event called Restart a Heart Live on YouTube, aiming to have 1,500 participants join in to set a new Guinness World Record.

Students at Glasgow Caledonian University actively participated in the event by hosting their own CPR training session on campus while watching the livestream. Over 100 people, including student Sam Hurt, took part in the event and expressed feeling more confident in their ability to save a life after the training.

Sam shared his experience, stating that learning CPR made him feel more prepared for real-life emergencies. He emphasized the importance of knowledge in dispelling fears and boosting confidence in handling critical situations.

The initiative to break the world record by teaching CPR was not limited to Glasgow, as schools, colleges, and universities across the country also joined in the effort. Sessions were held throughout the day, encouraging members of the public to participate and learn life-saving skills.

The outcome of the world record attempt is eagerly awaited by the Scottish Ambulance Service, with hopes of making a significant impact on improving survival rates for out-of-hospital cardiac arrests. Lee Myers, SAS Paramedic Clinical Team Leader, highlighted the importance of widespread CPR training in increasing survival rates and empowering individuals to take action during emergencies.

In addition to CPR training, participants also received education on using defibrillators and what to expect when dialing 999 for emergency assistance. The event aimed to equip as many people as possible with the skills and confidence needed to perform hands-only CPR and use defibrillators effectively in critical situations.

By engaging in such training initiatives, the Scottish Ambulance Service aims to create a community of individuals who are ready and capable of administering life-saving measures when it matters most. The collective effort to break the world record for CPR training reflects a commitment to enhancing public health and safety across Scotland.
