BUCHANAN Street got a surprise visit from a group of line dancers who took over the busy shopping street in a flash mob. The dancers, led by Maggie’s Line Dance Class, showcased their moves on Saturday, May 3, at noon, near the Donald Dewar statue.
The event was in support of International Line Dance Flash Mob Day, an annual celebration that happens every first Saturday in May. Maggie Stevenson, the instructor who runs classes at Maggie’s Rock n’ Rodeo in the Trongate, invited the public to join in on the fun last month.
The flash mob featured beginner dances like A Bar Song and House of Bamboo, along with the more advanced Do It All Again. To honor Scottish traditional dancing, the group also performed The Slosh to Kevin McGuire’s Have You Ever Seen the Rain.
The event welcomed everyone, regardless of their experience in line dancing. Maggie took to social media to express her gratitude to the participants, saying, “You were all fabulous – thank you so much for joining us and help make it a fantastic day for everyone. Next year we will make it even bigger and even better!!!”
Attendees raved about their experience at the event, with one person commenting, “What a brilliant day, everyone you seen had a glow, loved beings part of it.” Another participant joked, “Well done, everyone. Loads of sore feet and heads this morning.” And a third person gushed, “The most enjoyable day ever, am still buzzing.”
