Businesses in the Trongate area are calling it a day early as they prepare for the unofficial Celtic title celebration. A popular café has decided to shut shop ahead of time, citing the expected chaos outside due to the party. Similarly, a bustling store in the vicinity has also issued a warning that they might have to close earlier than usual today to avoid any potential disruptions.
Celtic fans are gearing up to gather in the Trongate and Merchant City to commemorate their club’s 55th Scottish Premiership title victory. Following Celtic’s match with St Mirren at Celtic Park, supporters announced plans for an impromptu title bash in the Trongate. Rose & Grants, a well-loved café and brunch spot, has already closed its doors for the day at 1.30pm, much earlier than their regular closing time of 4pm. Furthermore, GuitarGuitar at 36 Trongate has also expressed concerns about potential disruptions in the area later in the day, indicating a possible early closure.
As the day progresses, special precautions have been implemented to mitigate any risks. Measures have been taken to prevent injuries or damages during today’s unofficial Celtic title party in the Trongate, including stripping bus shelters. The removal of glass panels and roofs from the shelters aims to prevent incidents like fans climbing on top of them, as seen in previous years. During the 2023 celebrations, two Hoops fans were captured on video falling through the roof of a bus shelter, prompting authorities to take proactive steps this time around.
