Glasgow Street Festival: A Highlight on the Calendar

A Glasgow community is gearing up for the highly anticipated annual event that has become a staple in their calendar. The Springburn Community Festival is set to take place on Saturday, August 24, from noon until 4pm, promising a day filled with fun, activities, and community spirit. This year’s festival is expected to be the biggest and best one yet, drawing in thousands of residents to Springburn Way, the shopping center, and the leisure center for a day of celebration.

The festival, organized by Spirit of Springburn, has been a resounding success for the past three years, attracting over 5,000 guests last year alone. It has been hailed as the “highlight of the North Glasgow calendar,” bringing together people from all walks of life to enjoy a day of festivities. The event showcases the vibrant community spirit of Springburn and offers a platform for local businesses, food vendors, and community groups to come together and showcase their offerings.

One of the highlights of this year’s festival is the addition of a vintage bus tour, presented by MSP Paul Sweeney. This unique experience will allow attendees to explore the area in style and learn more about the history and heritage of Springburn. In addition to the bus tour, there will also be family-friendly wrestling matches and a bookable sensory room, providing entertainment for visitors of all ages.

The festival will feature a wide array of stalls offering delicious food from local vendors, as well as interactive activities and games for children and adults alike. From face painting and balloon art to live music performances and dance showcases, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. The festival aims to bring the entire community together, regardless of income or race, to celebrate the diversity and richness of Springburn.

Emma Porter, from Spirit of Springburn, emphasized the importance of the festival in bringing people together and showcasing the true spirit of the community. She stated, “The aim is just to bring the whole community together and show them what we are really like. Because this area gets a lot of bad press. It’s really important because it follows a survey we did, where people told us they want a festival and they want activities. It’s a chance for everyone to come together, regardless of income or race, and meet lots of organizations that they may not know exist. We are bringing people together and celebrating Springburn with fun activities that are completely free.”

As the festival approaches, excitement is building among residents and local businesses who are looking forward to coming together and celebrating all that Springburn has to offer. The festival serves as a testament to the strength and resilience of the community, showcasing the positive impact that can be achieved when people come together to celebrate their shared heritage and culture.

The Springburn Community Festival has become a cornerstone event in the Glasgow calendar, drawing in visitors from near and far to experience the unique charm and hospitality of the area. With a diverse lineup of activities, entertainment, and food offerings, the festival promises to be a day to remember for all who attend. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to be a part of the vibrant community spirit of Springburn and join in the festivities on August 24th.
