A Christmas celebration has kicked off in Paisley with the opening of a funfair and ice-rink. The town center was filled with excited crowds last night as the festive season officially began.

The ice-rink welcomed its first skaters, including members of the local professional hockey team Glasgow Clan and dancers from the Maryann McCreadie School of Dance. It was a joyful sight to see everyone enjoying the outdoor ice.

Organized by Renfrewshire Council in partnership with Scotland’s Theme Park, the Paisley Christmas event will run until Saturday, December 28. The town’s Christmas lights were illuminated during the opening night by Provost Lorraine Cameron and Mia from St James’ Primary School, who won the honor through the Provost’s annual Christmas Card Competition.

In addition to the ice-rink and funfair, Paisley is gearing up to host its first Christmas Market on the High Street next Saturday. Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in the 12 Days of Christmas competition and the Cosy Christmas Trail, with chances to win exciting prizes.

Santa will also be making appearances at his Grotto on select dates in December, giving children the chance to share their Christmas wishes. Meanwhile, Johnstone’s Christmas lights switch-on event will take place in Houstoun Square tomorrow, followed by free family activities in Renfrew Town Hall on Sunday.

For those interested in attending the festive events, tickets can be purchased online. Discounts are available for Renfrewshire residents, students, and YoungScot card holders, making it an affordable and enjoyable experience for all. Get ready to embrace the holiday spirit and create lasting memories with your loved ones in Paisley this Christmas season.
