A popular Glasgow restaurant has put forward a second planning application for a new location in the West End. Okome is looking to occupy a vacant unit at 252 Dumbarton Road, which was previously home to Superdrug. The restaurant chain, known for its Japanese cuisine, aims to expand its presence beyond its current five branches, which include outlets in Glasgow’s Byres Road and Paisley. The proposed operating hours for the new location are from 11am to 10pm, seven days a week.
If the application is approved, the only external change to the building would be the installation of a flue. Inside, plans include two spacious seating areas, a bar, function space, kitchen, and restroom facilities. Despite a previous rejection of a similar plan for the same venue, Okome is optimistic about the potential success of this new venture. The restaurant prides itself on offering a variety of Japanese dishes such as sushi, ramen, rice bowls, yakisoba, and bibimbap, with a focus on high-quality ingredients and a memorable dining experience for customers. Okome has been serving the Glasgow community since October 2021 and is committed to engaging with residents to meet their needs and contribute to the local area’s vibrancy.
The application emphasizes Okome’s dedication to promoting a sense of community on Dumbarton Road, enhancing the street’s appeal and creating a unique Japanese dining experience for locals and visitors. The restaurant aims to establish a welcoming atmosphere with an active frontage that encourages pedestrian traffic and adds to the town center’s character. By offering a diverse menu and engaging with the neighborhood, Okome seeks to become a valued addition to the West End dining scene. The proposed development aligns with the restaurant’s mission of providing delicious Japanese cuisine in a lively and visually appealing setting, reflecting Okome’s commitment to culinary excellence and customer satisfaction.
