Actors Ncuti Gatwa, David Tennant, Richard Gadd, and Ashley Storrie have been nominated for a Bafta Scotland award that is chosen by the public. The Audience Award for Favourite Scot on Screen, in partnership with Screen Scotland, is the only award that is decided by public vote.
Ashley Storrie, known for her role in the series Dinosaur, has been nominated. The series is set in Glasgow and follows the story of an autistic woman. Richard Gadd, a comedian, has been nominated for his Netflix show Baby Reindeer. This show gained attention when a woman claimed to be the inspiration behind one of the characters and filed a legal action against Netflix, stating that the story was inaccurate.
Blue Peter presenter Abby Cook, who is 21 years old and hails from Falkirk, is also nominated for the award. She joined the show last year as its 42nd presenter and is the first to use a wheelchair. David Tennant and Ncuti Gatwa have both been nominated for their roles in Doctor Who. Jack Lowden, an actor who attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, has been nominated for Slow Horses.
Viewers have the opportunity to vote for their favorite Scot on screen through an online vote that closes on October 30 at 5 pm. The winner will be announced at the Bafta Scotland awards ceremony in November. Past winners of this award include Lawrence Chaney, Sam Heughan, and Lauren Lyle.
Bafta Scotland director Jude MacLaverty encouraged the public to vote for their favorite nominee, stating that all six nominees have captivated audiences and created memorable moments through their performances on TV screens. The nominations for the 15 competitive categories were chosen through a combination of membership voting and industry professional juries.
Edith Bowman will host the Bafta Scotland ceremony, which will take place on November 17 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central. Tickets for the event can be purchased online. It is a night to celebrate the creativity and talent of Scottish artists in the film and television industry.
