Ally McCoist recently apologized to Rangers fans for unintentionally missing an Ibrox tribute in his honor. The former Rangers player was honored with an OBE last week and during the match against Lyon, the club paid tribute to him.

McCoist, who was doing commentary during the Europa League game, was completely unaware of the video tribute playing on the big screen at Ibrox. Additionally, he was caught on camera looking unaware of the tribute, which made the situation more awkward for him.

During a talkSPORT interview, McCoist expressed his regret, saying, “I went to the Rangers game on Thursday night, and they very kindly did a thing on the screen for me. I need to apologize because I had my headphones on and I didn’t know it was on. The camera went on me, and it looks like I’m being really rude. It looks like I’m ignoring everybody! But I had my headphones on and had someone talking to me in the studio, so I didn’t know. If anybody is listening, then I apologize because it was a very thoughtful gesture.”

McCoist, who was honored for his contributions to football and broadcasting with the OBE, was also presented with a special Rangers shirt by interim chairman John Gilligan before the match.

Reflecting on receiving the OBE from Prince William, McCoist shared, “Such a proud moment for myself and my family. I am humbled to be receiving my OBE from Prince William at Windsor Castle today. Thank you for all the support and messages; it means so much. Did we speak about @AVFCOfficial ?? That’s between the Prince and I.”

It’s evident that McCoist deeply values the support from Rangers fans and the recognition he has received. The unintentional snub was a result of not being aware of the tribute due to being engaged in his commentary duties. Despite the mishap, McCoist’s gratitude and humility shine through in his apology and appreciation for the thoughtful gesture from the club.
