Former Rangers star Kyle Hutton has been arrested after a tragic incident where a woman passed away after being hit by a car in Rutherglen.
Victoria Cairns, a 40-year-old from Glasgow, was struck by an orange Mistubishi L200 pick-up on Farmeloan Road around 8 pm on Saturday, November 2. She was immediately taken to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday, November 6.
Hutton, who is 33 years old and a former player for Rangers, was taken into custody and charged with alleged road traffic offenses in connection with the incident. He was scheduled to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, November 4, but was released from custody without appearing in court. The case is still under consideration by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS).
The footballer had started his professional career with Rangers and played for the team until 2015. The COPFS spokesperson mentioned that the case against Hutton is ongoing and asked for anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward.
Sergeant Andrew Coutts expressed condolences to the woman’s family and friends during this challenging time and urged witnesses or individuals with dash-cam footage of the crash to contact the authorities. Police Scotland has requested anyone with information to reach out by calling 101 and quoting reference number 3542 of November 2, 2024.
