GoYoker Fish and Chips, located in Yoker, is making waves in the culinary world by being shortlisted for ‘Scotland’s Best Newcomer’ in the Scottish Fish and Chip Awards 2024. The brain behind this successful venture is Scott Gartland, a 47-year-old entrepreneur who took a leap of faith and opened the chippy only a year ago.

Scott’s journey to entrepreneurship began when he stumbled upon the opportunity to lease the building that would become GoYoker. With a background in managing Blue Lagoon shops for five years, Scott was ready for a new challenge and decided to pursue his dream of owning his own business.

Reflecting on his decision to open GoYoker, Scott shared, “I used to work in Blue Lagoon for five years. I was the manager of the Glasgow Fort and St Enoch Centre shops. After five years, I wanted to try something for myself and then I saw that Hook’d, as it was called at that time, was up for lease. So I thought if I don’t try it, I’ll never know. So I went for it.”

Despite initial apprehension, Scott’s dedication and hard work paid off as GoYoker celebrated its one-year anniversary in August. Building strong connections with the local community has been a priority for Scott, who values the relationships he has formed with his customers.

Scott emphasized, “It’s a community here. It’s not like the high streets or Glasgow city centre, where if someone’s not happy with something, they don’t come back. I actually care about my customers. If you were to spend, say, two hours from the shop just and watching the amount of people that walk past and wave to me or shout and say hi it’s great.”

In addition to providing top-notch service, Scott goes above and beyond for his customers by acknowledging special occasions in their lives. From congratulatory cards for new jobs to small gifts for birthdays and graduations, Scott ensures that his customers feel valued and appreciated.

The nomination for ‘Scotland’s Best Newcomer’ is a testament to Scott’s commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction. As he continues to grow and expand his business, Scott remains grateful for the support of the community and looks forward to serving delicious fish and chips to his loyal customers.

In a world where fast food chains dominate the market, businesses like GoYoker Fish and Chips stand out for their personalized service, community engagement, and dedication to quality. Scott Gartland’s entrepreneurial journey serves as an inspiration to aspiring business owners, showcasing the rewards of hard work, perseverance, and a genuine passion for serving others.
