Pop Star Surprise Performance at Glasgow School Reunion
A famous singer surprised staff and pupils when he turned up at his school reunion and performed for them. Travis frontman Fran Healy flew from his home in Los Angeles to a dinner dance at the Hilton celebrating St Fillan’s Primary School’s 50th anniversary. The 51-year-old rocked up to the event and grabbed a guitar before going on stage to perform some of his greatest hits.
Guests were wowed by Turn, Flowers in the Window, and Why Does It Always Rain on Me. He also took the time to thank his old teacher Cecelia McLeod for instilling confidence in him to pursue his dreams. Fran shared with staff and fellow former pupils that his time at the school in the early 1980s had been pivotal to his success.
Memorable Performance and Heartfelt Reunion
A guest at the event expressed their admiration for Fran’s performance, stating, “Fran was brilliant. He gave a fantastic performance and then happily posed for photos all night. He was there until the end, chatting away and smiling. Such a down-to-earth guy, he hasn’t changed a bit – apart from the red hair.” St Fillan’s deputy headteacher Bridie Gibb also commended Fran for making time for the reunion despite his busy schedule launching his new record.
Ms. Gibb shared her appreciation for Fran’s visit, noting, “He is a really nice guy and was kind enough to make time for us, even though he is busy launching his album at the same time. Fran coming back pulls together the whole sentiment of the school turning 50. He started within the first few years of it opening, so to still come back after all this time is really lovely.”
A Nostalgic Reunion and Gratitude
Teachers at St Fillan’s Primary School had expressed their desire to have Fran attend the special event, reaching out to him for the reunion. Reflecting on his time at the school, Fran shared his gratitude for the impact it had on his life and career. The reunion not only celebrated the school’s milestone anniversary but also highlighted the success of past pupils like Fran who have gone on to achieve great things.
“We are really blessed that past pupils do return to us and have gone on to be so successful, it is nice to know they still hold us in high esteem,” Ms. Gibb added. The reunion served as a reminder of the strong connections between the school and its alumni, showcasing the lasting impact of education and support from teachers like Cecelia McLeod.
Travis will be back in Glasgow for a highly anticipated gig at the Hydro on November 21, continuing their legacy of captivating performances and meaningful connections with their fans. Fran’s surprise appearance at the school reunion served as a heartwarming reminder of the power of music, nostalgia, and gratitude for the formative experiences that shape us.
