Renfrewshire Council has revealed that a total of 22 streets will be exempt from the new pavement parking restrictions set to be enforced this November. These new parking laws aim to address issues such as parking on pavements, double parking, and parking in front of dropped kerbs, which can obstruct pedestrian pathways and pose safety hazards.

The council has initiated a consultation period that will run until September 11, during which objections to the proposed exemptions will be considered. If no objections are raised, the exemptions will come into effect alongside the enforcement of the new restrictions in November. The exemptions have been carefully selected for streets where pavement parking is necessary for emergency vehicles to pass through or where there is sufficient space for pedestrians while a car is parked on the pavement.

Exempt Streets in Various Locations

In Bishopton, streets such as Cawdor Crescent, Ettrick Drive, Greenock Road, Morar Crescent, Teviot Drive, and Yarrow Crescent have been identified for exemption from the pavement parking restrictions. Similarly, in Bridge of Weir, Houston Road on the south side of the service road at Elm Road and both sides of Houston Road between Warlock Road and Freeland Drive will be exempt.

Crosslee will see exemptions on Houston Road between Whirlie Road and Crosslee Park, while Elderslie’s Glenpatrick Road between Kings Crescent and Edzell Drive will also be exempt. In Johnstone, exemptions will apply to Burns Drive between Scott Avenue and Burns Avenue, as well as Graham Street on the north side between Hagg Road and Hagg Crescent.

Kilbarchan’s The Grove and the south side of Low Barholm from 12 to 20 will be exempt, along with Middlepenny Road on the north side from 18 to 20 in Langbank. Kintyre Avenue on the south side from 25 to 73 in Linwood will also be exempt, as well as Newton of Barr on the north side in Lochwinnoch.

In Paisley, exemptions will include Andrew Street on the north side between Caledonia Street and Albion Street, Blythswood Drive on the south side between Caledonia Street and Albion Street, and Penilee Road on both sides between Auchmannoch Avenue and School Road. Renfrew’s East Avenue and West Avenue on the north side will also be exempt from the pavement parking restrictions.

Implementation and Awareness

The council has assured that all exemptions will be clearly marked with appropriate signage and road markings to inform drivers. Additionally, the council plans to raise awareness of the new parking rules before they come into effect in November. It is crucial for drivers to adhere to the new legislation, as failure to park according to the new rules may result in a £100 Penalty Charge Notice, which can be reduced to £50 if paid within 14 days.

It is important for residents and visitors alike to familiarize themselves with the exempt streets and the new parking regulations to ensure compliance and avoid penalties. The exemptions have been carefully considered to balance the needs of pedestrians, emergency vehicles, and drivers in various locations across Renfrewshire.

Impact on Local Communities

The implementation of the new pavement parking restrictions and exemptions will have a significant impact on local communities. By prohibiting pavement parking, double parking, and parking in front of dropped kerbs, the council aims to improve pedestrian safety, accessibility, and traffic flow in the designated areas.

Residents and businesses in the exempt streets must be aware of the new rules and ensure that their parking practices align with the regulations to avoid fines and penalties. The exemptions for emergency vehicle access and pedestrian space highlight the council’s commitment to balancing the needs of various stakeholders while maintaining safety and order on the streets.

Overall, the exemptions from pavement parking restrictions in Renfrewshire reflect a proactive approach by the council to address parking issues and enhance the overall quality of life for residents. It is essential for all drivers to stay informed and comply with the new regulations to promote a safer and more efficient parking environment in the region.
